Please note that most of the Portuguese banks will not approved mortgages for “rustic” properties and mainly agricultural areas. But it is possible to buy a permanent or holiday home, to get a remortgage and equity release on your existing Portuguese property and to get a mortgage to buy land and self build.
The base rate in Portugal is called Euribor, which is linked to the European base rate (ECB). Currently the main type of product offered in Portugal to non residents is a tracker equivalent used in the UK and Ireland. The banks will offer a margin above the Euribor and this will depend on the amount you borrow and the loan to value.
